The objectives of the study include – to identify social security schemes implemented by Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Madi Municipality of Chitwan; identify issues, gaps, and challenges for implementing social security/protection schemes; and recommend a workable solution for promoting access to social security/protection schemes for internal migrant workers, including workers engaged in the adult entertainment sector.
This study adopts both the quantitative as well as qualitative research method. The primary data has been collected by household survey (total sample 633) that used KOBO tool and, qualitative primary data has been collected through the key informant interview (KII), focus group discussion (FGD) and case studies. The KII was conducted with the representatives of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security; Social Security Fund and Social Protection Civil Society Network at the federal level as well as sampled one ward of two municipalities (Bharatpur -2 and Madi-8). Focus group discussions were conducted in Bandarjhula and Pyauli communities of Ward No. 9 of Madi municipality as well as Aaptari community of Ward No. 2 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City including with representatives of workers engaged in adult entertainment sector (AES) and trade unions (TUs). In addition, two case studies were also included that have been adjusted in the relevant findings of FGDs.
