The primary objective of the Research on Labour Market Survey in Bharatpur & Madi Municipality was to study the labour market situation of Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Madi Municipality of Chitwan district. The specific objectives are as follows:

  • To identify the opportunities, challenges, issues and gaps of labour market of both Palikas and identify skill development training needs for the targeted population in the project areas
  • To recommend the workable solution for promoting access to labour market.

The research adopted qualitative approach following market driven and community led principles. The focus group discussion and key informant or group interviews were facilitated to collect the primary data. Meanwhile, the secondary sources also checked to triangulate and verify the data collected from the primary sources. A total of 6 FGDs was conducted at the rate of three FGDs per municipality- one with a group of employers and other with AES workers and women. Similarly, 4 Group Interviews- one group interviews with women groups and other with employers and 13 key / informant interviews conducted with municipal authorities, financial service providers and vocational / life skills training service providers in two Palikas (see annex 1 in details). The purposive sampling methods was used to select the key informants and focused groups participants (see annex 2 for detail list of stakeholders). Audio records and notes from these qualitative discussions were transcribed, translated, and segregated by themes and developed a comprehensive report based on the deeper analysis of findings aligning with research objectives.
