About Samari Utthan Sewa (SUS)

Samari Utthan Sewa (SUS) is a community-based, non-profit social development organization established in 2008 by a group of committed youth from Dalit and other marginalized communities in Nepal. Rooted in principles of equity, dignity, and social justice, SUS works to challenge caste-based discrimination and structural inequalities through inclusive and rights-based approaches.

Over the years, SUS has expanded its work across multiple thematic areas, including Economic, Cultural, and Social Rights (ECSR), gender equality, inclusive democracy, electoral governance, environmental justice, and sustainable livelihoods. The organization adopts participatory, community-driven strategies that prioritize the voices and leadership of marginalized groups, particularly women and Dalit communities. SUS is also actively engaged in research, advocacy, and capacity-strengthening initiatives to influence policy and promote evidence-based decision-making at local and national levels.

Position: Social Mobilizer (1)

Objective: SUS is currently seeking a dynamic and committed individual for the position of Social Mobilizer under the Adult Entertainment Related Project based in Chitwan office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mobilize and engage communities involved in the adult entertainment sector
  • Conduct awareness programs on rights, health, safety, and dignity
  • Support survivors and at-risk individuals through counseling and referrals
  • Coordinate with local stakeholders, government agencies, and partners
  • Facilitate group meetings, trainings, and community discussions
  • Assist in project implementation, documentation, and reporting

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Intermediate (+2) or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, or related field
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in community mobilization or related work
  • Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized groups preferred
  • Good communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to travel within project areas

Other Requirements:

  • Strong writing skill in English and Nepali, and commitment to human rights and social justice
  • Ability to work in a team and under challenging field conditions
  • Local candidates from Chitwan are highly encouraged to apply

2. Position: Field Surveyors (7 Positions)

Study Title: Sexual Violence and Survivors’ Idea of Justice

Duty Station: Seven Provinces of Nepal (Lumbini, Sudurpashchim, Karnali, Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki)
Duration: 3–4 Months

Objective of the Role: The primary objective of this role is to support the collection of high-quality, ethical, and sensitive data from survivors of sexual violence and their families, ensuring that their voices and lived experiences are documented with dignity, confidentiality, and care.

Key Responsibilities

The selected co-researchers will:

  • Conduct field surveys and in-depth interviews with survivors and their family members

  • Support key informant interviews (KIIs) with relevant stakeholders

  • Ensure trauma-informed, survivor-sensitive, and confidential data collection practices

  • Assist in mobilizing participants in coordination with local stakeholders

  • Maintain accurate and secure documentation of collected data

  • Participate in research orientation/training sessions

  • Provide regular updates to the research team and supervisors

  • Support preliminary data organization and field-level reflections

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in social sciences, gender studies, development studies, law, or related field

  • At least 1–2 years of experience in field research, surveys, or community-based work

  • Prior experience working on gender-based violence (GBV), human rights, or social justice issues is highly preferred

  • Good understanding of local context, culture, and language of the respective province

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to vulnerable populations

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards

  • Fluency in Nepali (knowledge of local languages is an asset)

  • Female candidates and individuals from marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply

Expected Deliverables

  • Completion of assigned surveys and interviews within the agreed timeline

  • Accurate and timely submission of field data and reports

  • Participation in debriefing and reflection sessions

  • Contribution to quality assurance of collected data
